POSAMO headquarters architectural drawing competition
Posamo Design Award
Using Taoyuan Longtan Aspire Park as its base, the POSAMO design team has incorporated the theme of Taipei Artist Village and invited junior students from the Department of Architecture, Feng Chia University to participate in the competition. It is hoped that the young students will unleash their ingenuity to take on the design contest by applying overall landscape, architectural design, environmental sustainability as well as new thinking about the cultural and creative industry. On April 25, 2016, POSAMO design team’s General Manager Chiang Ching-hung was invited to attend the appraisal process, where 11 teachers from the Department of Architecture, Feng Chia University selected 10 finalists from 120 submissions. The finalists were asked to elaborate on their design creativity, where the students benefited tremendously from the interactions between the main judges and guest judges and enthusiastic discussions during the scintillating presentations. In the end, the top 3 winners were “Meandering River,” “Snapshot of Watershed,” and “Spill Out”!

Student Liang Chien-ming received the gold prize for his work “Meandering River,” which is inspired by local Hakka culture and the history of tea gardens. Using the architectural heritage of Hakka courtyard house, an axis has been designed to connect the entire space, including vacant spaces such as the corridor and courtyard. Furthermore, the dwelling space is also taken into consideration, where the semi-outdoor teahouse is designed to foster interactions within the Taipei Artist Village.

The silver prize winner “Snapshot of Watershed” was submitted by student Liu Chen-yu, who drew inspiration from the ecology of migratory birds to conceptualize the artist village using the ecosystem of migratory birds and resident birds. The space design is conducted via 3 storylines created by 3 different studios.

“Spill Out,” a piece of projection art designed by student Chen Po-yu, was selected as the bronze prizewinner. In his design, buildings are regarded as canvases, where projectable facades are created via pushing, pulling, turning, and offsetting. The concept of courtyard is applied, and the distance between buildings is regarded as the main movement path where interpersonal interaction and exchanges take place. The difference in elevation of the entire park is taken into consideration, thereby demonstrating great emphasis on separating public and private areas.

In conjunction with the Department of Architecture, Feng Chia University, POSAMO design team has created an architectural drawing competition that acts as an open stage for different thinking, ideas, and possibilities to come together. This is done in the hope of stimulating students to generate more design concepts and creativities while contemplating how to apply the spirit of environmental sustainability to sculpt the dwelling that is surrounded by nature.
