Clogs
The origin of clogs is in China, and they were described in the poems by the famous poet Li Bai. It was not until in Tang Dynasty, a Japanese student studied abroad in China and brought the clogs back to his hometown that the clogs become an important element in Japanese traditional culture now. Another important cultural characteristic in Japan is hot springs, and people can see them everywhere when they walk in the large streets and small lanes. And the unique blue sulphur springs have made Forever Young (Shining Yuchuan) become a new focus in Peitou.

The reception center of Forever Young (Shining Yuchuan) is full of Japanese atmosphere, and POSAMO team created an artwork taking people to feel the atmosphere and situation of Japanese streets. Clogs shuttle in the streets and make the clickety-clacking sound without end and there are bathhouses standing in rows of low-rise Japanese-style houses. Look at the artwork on the wall; the artist uses the black base as the artwork’s background to represent the entry of athhouses, and with fifty pairs of clogs on it to represent a group of people entering the bathhouses convivially. The artwork not only conveys a joyful and prosperous atmosphere of past times but also gives a blessing that hopes this place to be swarmed with people.

Fifty groups of imported logs with different colors and grain turned into pairs of clogs with the artist exquisite technique. Exposed the logs under the sun for about one week in order to evaporate the excess moisture from logs and this process could extend the life of artwork; later, with the hammer beating and planer tools carving on them, the artist changed the logs into pairs of clogs. In addition, the mater skipped the polishing process to leave the original colors and grain on the clogs. This gives the artwork a spirit of “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” and makes the artwork not just be a decoration but a cultural asset recording history.
